Mother Myrolene Terry Obituary

Myrolene Elizabeth Timmons Terry passed away quietly at her home after a brief illness on January 27, 2026.  She was born in Florence, SC on January 21, 1943 and was the oldest of seven children of the late Cliffie Timmons and Earline Eaddy Timmons.

She was a 1960 graduate of Gibbs High School in Pamplico, South Carolina and relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina with her newly wedded husband, the late Rev. Derioux Johnson soon after graduation. While in Greensboro, she was a   faithful member of Saint Paul Baptist Church where she was a member of the Gospel Choir, attended Sunday School and participated in various church activities. From her marriage to Derioux, she had two children, Dearise and Lowaren Johnson.

Marlene, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, enjoyed singing, sewing, cooking and decorating. An avid collector of treasured knick knacks and armed with a green thumb that could keep the most stubborn of  greenery alive. She possessed the gift of making a house a home by filling it with warmth and personality.

Her gifts did not stop there.  She always made an entrance to any room dressed as if she was in a one-woman fashion show.  She held firm to her motto, “Just because you may be poor, you don’t have to look it.”  She and her daughter called it a “Timmons Thang.” Marlene loved to talk and brag about her family, her church, her children, and her grandchildren.

She and her surviving husband Henry often referred to Deanna as “Grandma” or “Miss Thang.” She was so proud of her grandchildren and would often say, “Well do nigh”, whenever she thought their accomplishments were so AMAZING!!

She returned home to Pamplico, SC thirty years ago with her current husband of forty-four years, Henry, who affectionally called her Suga-Foot and considered her his lifeline as they were joined at the hip and how you rarely saw one without the other.  After returning home, she continued her faithful membership at Mount Rona Baptist Church in  Effingham, SC where she had been a member since she was a child. Marlene continued to bless the Lord with vocals that others would refer to as operatic in range as it could shatter glass if she so chose.

Wonderful memories and loving thoughts of Marlene will be cherished always by her husband Henry Terry; one daughter Dearise Johnson (Daniel) Thorp of Oxford, NC; one son Lowaren Dero (Petronia) Johnson of Whitsett, NC; three grandchildren, Deanna Satterwhite of Greensboro, NC, Dorian Johnson and Cameron Johnson of Whitsett, NC; four stepchildren, Tabitha (Kenneth) Brown and Henry Terry, Jr., of Greensboro, NC; Travis Terry of Philadelphia, PA and Pete Terry of High Point, NC; eight step grandchildren, Anthony (Lisa) Thorp of Clarksville, TN; Kenneth, Jr., Ann-Marie, John-Robert, Silas, Kennise, Kensington and Faith-Kelli Brown of  Greensboro, NC; one step great  granddaughter, Sidney Thorp of Clarksville, TN; two sisters, Gloria Wineglass of Columbia, SC, Mary Dargan of Pamplico, SC; one brother James (Pat) Timmons of Florence, SC; one brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Robinson of Pamplico, SC; two sisters-in-law, Mary Hook and  Betty Jones of Greensboro, NC; a host of other relatives and friends.

Including her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by one brother, Major Timmons; two sisters, Deloris McCown and Dorothy Timmons; two nephews, Terrance Timmons Bennett and Jermaine Timmons; one brother-in-law, Josehp Johnson; and two sisters-in-law, Minne Lee Timmons and Willie Jean Jones.
